Dune sets a new record and tops the Friday box office at $17.5 million

    According to , the film’s opening numbers included $5.1 million from Thursday previews, with IMAX theaters accounting for $4.5 million or 24% of its total gross.

    Villaneuve’s previous Friday box office high was his 2017 sci-fi reboot Blade Runner 2049 which took in $12.6 million.
